Artist Statement
I am a Lithuanian-born interdisciplinary artist who grew up in Ireland. Raised separated from my culture I was fascinated by indigenous Baltic folk tales and superstitions where nature was a living entity that commanded respect. As a child I spent summers in Lithuania fishing and swimming in lakes, foraging in forests and brewing potions by the sandy lake beaches. In my personal practice, I am consistently drawn to themes of nature and femininity, weaving elements of pagan mysticism and gothic aesthetics into my work. My unique experiences of growing in between two cultures deeply inform my art, which I see as a fluid, evolving entity—one that transforms and expands as I grow, as an artist, a researcher, a teacher, and a human.
Above all, I like to be involved in creative projects with other artists such as musicians, creating cover art as a response to their music. Act in short films, or music videos for local directors. I write and perform my poetry at local events, and immerse myself in all kinds of artistic scenes. This is because I believe art to be the connecting force that breaks the barriers of language and culture amongst people.
