Research Statement
As a Lithuanian woman who grew up in Ireland, I have had the unique experience of navigating multiple cultural identities and understanding the complexities of belonging and acceptance. My journey as an immigrant has shaped my strong interest in issues of equality, diversity, and inclusion. I believe in the importance of building safe, supportive, and encouraging environments where individuals feel heard, respected, and free to express themselves.
In my research, I aim to explore the ways in which stereotypes and prejudice manifest in educational settings, particularly within the classroom. My focus is on creating spaces where all students, regardless of their background, can thrive and feel valued. I have developed a questionnaire that addresses these issues, seeking to understand how teachers and students can work together to challenge harmful stereotypes and create more inclusive learning environments.
As a feminist, I am also deeply concerned with women’s issues, advocating for gender equality in all spheres of life. While this may not be the central focus of my current research, I recognize that the intersection of gender with race, culture, and other identities plays a critical role in shaping experiences of discrimination and bias, and these themes are always present in my broader work.
I am passionate about contributing to a more equitable society through research that can inform better educational practices and policies, ensuring that every individual feels safe and empowered in their learning environment.
